Every part of Bali claims to be liveable. Sanur proves it with distances. Supermarket in 6 minutes. Hospital and school in 8. The harbour and Icon Mall in 10. The airport in 25. A calm, reef-protected sea at the end of a flat street. This is Bali's slow lane, and it is built for staying rather than visiting.
Sanur was Bali's first beach town and it kept its manners. The beachfront path runs flat for kilometres, which means morning walks and cycling without traffic. The sea is calm enough to swim year round. The restaurant scene is long-established rather than trend-driven. Nothing about the place demands youth, and that is exactly the point.
Compare that with Canggu, which we love and sell in, but which runs on scooters, surf and late openings. Visit both. Watch which one you relax in.
A lone villa makes you responsible for the pool, the garden, the leaks and the staff. A serviced residence makes that someone's job.
